A champion at all levels of competition throughout his athletic career, Wayne Moore proved to be the ultimate team player. He played his role for a high school state championship team, for two of Lamar University’s outstanding basketball teams and a pair of Super Bowl winners.

At Lamar, Moore made his mark in basketball. With the burly 6-foot-6 Moore as the enforcer in the middle, the Cardinals gained an NCAA College Division playoff berth in 1966 and posted a sparkling 20-4 record in 1968-69. Moore was awesome in that memorable 1968-69 campaign as he collected 302 rebounds. He destroyed unbeaten and seventh-ranked Tulsa by ripping down 20 boards. He grabbed 16 caroms in a historic first win over Houston and had 11 other double-digit rebound outings as the Cardinals beat four NCAA Division I tournament entries, including Memphis State and Texas A&M.

Moore started his championship trophy collection in 1964 when he helped Beaumont Charlton-Pollard High School win a state basketball title. Moore went on to a successful professional football career, playing nine seasons for the Miami Dolphins. Moore won two Super Bowl titles with the Dolphins, and was a member of their 1972 undefeated team. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1973.
