Cardinal Hall of Honor
A lifelong commitment of his time for the benefit of youngsters is Rob Roy’s legacy, although he was a premier all-around athlete at South Park Junior College in the 1926-29 era. The number of young people he influenced as a longtime sports official is immeasurable.
For 40 years, Roy’s association with Little League Baseball, Inc. has benefitted thousands of area youngsters. One of the founders of the Beaumont organization, Roy did all there was to do in Little League, except play. He was the administrator of Texas Little League District 12, the state’s largest district with 28 leagues. He was he last remaining active district administrator from the original appointments in 1956.
Roy played football, basketball and baseball at South Park Junior College and was captain of the 1929 basketball team. A noted umpire, who assigned umpires for the Texas Little League state tournament, his most memorable event was as plate umpire in the 1966 Little League World Series. He was also a member of the Southwest Football Officials Association for 38 years.
