Kevin Bell was a four-year letterwinner in track from 1974-77 and a two-year letterwinner in football from 1976-77. Bell earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors as a senior in 1977 after leading the team in rushing with 515 yards. He rushed for 127 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown scamper, in Lamar’s 35-7 win at McNeese State. He averaged 21.4 yards per kickoff return, which included a 93-yard return for a touchdown at Drake.
As a junior in 1976, Bell rushed for 110 yards and averaged 18.6 yards per kickoff return. Although a 12th-round pick if the San Diego Chargers, Bell played as a wide receiver for the New York Jets in 1978.
A native of Beaumont, Bell was also a standout sprinter for the LU track team. He set a school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.3 seconds as he won at the 1977 Baylor Relays. Bell was an NCAA qualifier in the 100 meters in 1976 and 1977.
