Cardinal Hall of Honor
Becky Brooke was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University women’s track and field and cross country teams. She was an eight-time All-Southland Conference performer and won the 1986 Southland Conference women’s cross country race.
Brooke won three events at the 1987 Southland Conference Indoor Championships. She captured the 1,000-yard run in a time of 2:24.09 in the only ear the conference conducted that event at the championships. She also won the mile run in 5:!3.20 and the two-mile run in 11:18.60.
Brooke was just as impressive outdoors at the Southland Conference Championships. In 1986, she won the 1,500-meter run with a 4:37.27 clocking and captured the 3,000-meter run in 10:25.60. Brooke won three events at the 1987 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships en route to being named Outstanding Track Performer after compiling a meet-best 30 points. She won the 1,500 meters in 4:35.58, the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:07.16 and the 5,000 meters in 17:50.39. At the time of her induction, she was one of only 13 female athletes to win three events in the same year at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Brooke still ranks among the all-time best performers in Lamar University history. At the time of her induction, she ranked second all-time in the 3,000 meters (9:54.59), third in the 1,500 meters (4:33.94) and third in the 5,000 meters (17:16.54). Indoors, her time of 10:58.00 in the two-mile run ranked second all-time in LU history.
