Cardinal Hall of Honor
Kenny Haynes was a four-year letterman and three-year starter on the Lamar University men’s basketball team from 1966-1970.
He led the Cardinals to the 1970 Southland Conference title, earning Southland Conference Player of the Year honors in the process. He averaged 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in the 1969-70 season.
One of LU’s all-time great defensive players, Haynes led the 9698-69 team to a memorable 20-4 record that included wins over Houston, Texas A&M and Memphis State. He led the team in assists in both the 1968-69 and 1969-70 seasons with 4.0 and 3.1 assists per game, respectively.
Haynes posted career averages of 11.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He scored a career-high 29 points vs. Centenary on Feb. 13, 1968.
