Cardinal Hall of Honor
Jimmy Singletary was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University men’s golf team from 1967 through 1970. He helped the Cardinals win four straight Southland Conference championships and make two appearances in the NCAA College Division Championships.
Singletary helped LU win back-to-back NCAA College Division championships in 1967 and 1968. Individually, he placed eighth at the 1968 NCAA College Division Championship, which was hosted by Lamar University at Tyrrell Park.
A native of Beaumont, Singletary was the 1969 Southland Conference medalist after posting rounds of 70, 72 and 71 for a 54-hole total of 213. He was named NCAA College Division All-American in 1968 and earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1969.
Singletary remained in Beaumont and enjoyed a distinguished career with the Beaumont Police Department. Upon retiring after 30 years of service, Singletary joined the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. He attained the rank of major and supervised the Narcotics Unit and SWAT team.
