Patrick Gibbs was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University football team from 1968-71. An outstanding wide receiver for three seasons, Gibbs was moved to defensive back for his senior year and promptly earned All-Southland Conference honors.

Gibbs was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the ninth round of the 1972 NFL Draft. He played one season for the Eagles as defensive back. He recovered one fumble and averaged 20.3 yards per kickoff return.

As a three-year receiver for Lamar University, Gibbs caught 115 passes for 1,667 yards and 15 touchdowns. At the time of his induction, he ranked third on LU’s all-time list for catches (115), fourth in yardage (1,667) and ninth in scoring (96 points). His 15 career TD receptions were second in school history.

As a junior in 1970, Gibbs led the team in receiving with 34 catches for 637 yards and seven touchdowns. He tied the school record with three touchdown receptions against Louisiana Tech in 1969, and his 10 receptions for 97 yards against Louisiana Tech in 1968 ranked as the eighth best single-game total in school history.
