Cardinal Hall of Honor
Ed Marcontell, a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University football team, was a two-time All-Southland Conference performer at offensive tackle (1965, 1966). He was named LU’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 1966 and was named to the All-Texas College team.
Marcontell helped the Cardinals win three straight Southland Conference championships from 1964-66. He was part of an offensive unit that led the conference in total offense in 1965, averaging 317.6 yards per game.
Drafted by the National Football League’s St. Louis Cardinals, Marcontell played for the Cardinals, the Houston Oilers of the American Football League and the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Marcontell was a high school coach for 10 years, with stops at New Cancy, Cypress Fairbanks and Jersey Village.
