Rondy Colbert was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University football team from 1971 to 1974. Colbert was named first-team All-Southland Conference for three consecutive years (1972-1974) at free safety.
Colbert set LU records for punt returns in a season (31) and career (71) and most return yardage in a game 9118 against Louisiana-Lafayette). He was second on the team in tackles in 1973 with 63.
A 17th-round draft pick in 1975, Colbert spent three years in the NFL with the New York Giants. As a rookie in 1975, he led the team in kickoff-return average (24.0) and punt-return average (8.8), including one return for a touchdown.
