Cardinal Hall of Honor
Pat Park spent more than a quarter-century coaching women’s sports at Lamar University. She came to LU in 1968 as the women’s tennis coach (1968-75). She also coached the women’s basketball team (1972-78) as well as the softball team (1972-76, 1977-78), coaching all three of those sports at the same time.
Park coached the women’s golf team for 16 years before retiring following the 1993 season. She guided the program to national prominence, appearing in the AIAW National Tournament for five straight years from 1977 through 1981. The Lady Cardinals posted a seventh-place finish in the 1983 NCAA Tournament and an eight-place finish at the 1991 NCAA Tournament.
She coached four NCAA All-Americans and 20 Academic All-Americans. Park received national Coach of the Year honors in 1991 and is a member of the National Collegiate Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
