Cardinal Hall of Honor
Although Dudley Meredith played only one season for the Cardinals, he became a legend at Lamar. Meredith was a devastating offensive and defensive tackle during Lamar’s great 8-0-2 campaign in 1957. He became Lamar’s first All-America selected by The Associated Press, was All-Lone Star Conference and served as a team captain.
Meredith, extremely quick for a man who stood 6-foot-4 and weighed 250 pounds, spent several years in the American Football League with the Houston Oilers and Buffalo Bills. He was a defensive tackle on the 1964 and 1965 Buffalo Bills teams that won back-to-back AFL championships.
