    Men's Tennis Coach

Ron Wesbrooks served as the Lamar University men’s tennis coach for 17 seasons, setting a standard of excellence for which future Cardinals teams try and match. It didn’t take long for Wesbrooks to leave his imprint on the program as he brought home a Southland Conference title in just his third year as head coach. Under Wesbrooks’ instruction, the Cardinals would go on to win four consecutive league crowns from 1973-76. Recognized by the Southland for building the league’s premier program, Wesbrooks was named conference coach of the year four times during his career.

During his 17 years at the helm of the men’s program, Big Red won more than 200 matches – a string that included two 20-wins seasons. In addition to the team’s overall success, his players were recognized on an individual level as well. Wesbrooks produced seven first-team All-Southland Conference selections, while coaching four overall conference singles champions and three SLC doubles team champions.

Despite his retirement from the sport, his love of Lamar University athletics has never diminished. The Wesbrooks family continues its support of the tennis programs as constant figures at all LU home matches.
