The best long jumper in Lamar University history, Troy Amboree was a two-time All-American in the long jump and the 4x400 relay.
He was the Southland Conference’s Most Outstanding Performer at the 1984 SLC Championships after winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes, the long jump and running on the victorious 400-meter relay team.
Amboree set school records in the long jump at 26-4.5 outdoors set at the Cowboy Relays on March 3, 1984, and 25-4.75 set at the Sooner Indoor on Feb. 17, 1984. He was part of LU’s 1,600-meter relay team that placed second at the 1984 NCAA Championships in a school-record time of 3:02.65.
Amboree was a semifinalist in the long jump at the 1984 Olympic Trials.
