One of the best pitchers in Lamar University history, Julio Alonso was an integral part of LU becoming one of the top baseball programs in the region.

He earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1974 and 1975. He was named the SLC Pitcher of the Year in 1974 and earned NCAA All-District 6 recognition after posting a brilliant 11-1 mark and a sparkling 1.32 earned run average.

Alonso posted an 18-6 record over two years as he pitched against LU’s toughest competition. He set LU records for career earned run average (1.65) and best single-season winning percentage (.9917) in 1974.

His 1.32 ERA ranks among the best single-season marks in school history. At the time of his induction, he was second in career complete games (19) and third career winning percentage (.750). He threw the third no-hitter in LU history in a 6-0 win over UT Arlington in 1974.
