Larry Haynes was a two-year leterwinner for the Lamar University football team (1978-79), finishing his career as one of the most prolific passes in school history.
Haynes completed 92 of 184 passes for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior in 1978. He led the Southland Conference in passing (114.6 yards per game) and was second in total offense (121.7 yards per game).
As a senior in 1979, Haynes completed 233 of 402 passes to set school records of 2,641 yards and 21 touchdowns. He led the SLC in Passing (2,641) and total offense (2,428) as he was named second team All-Southland Conference.
Haynes, who was named Best Team Player, set a school record by completing 58.0 percent of his passes in 1979. His career completion percentage of 55.5 percent and his 273 career completions were school records at the time of his induction. His 2,641 passing yards and 2,428 yards of total offense in 1979 raked second, while his 3,02 career passing yards were third.
