Cardinal Hall of Honor
Kelly Gibson, who was a four-year letterman, helped Lamar University win Southland Conference championships in 1985 and 1986. The team also earned appearances in the NCAA Championship both years.
Gibson posted a 75.0 scoring average in 1985 and finished tied for seventh at the Southland Conference Championships. Lamar tied for 18th place at the NCAA Championships in Haines City, Fla. He improved his scoring average to 72.8 as a senior in 1986, and his best finish was tie for fourth at the Southland Conference Championships. The Cardinals finished seventh at the 1986 NCAA Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C, while Gibson tied for 28th place individually.
A native of New Orleans, Gibson turned professional in 1986, and won two Buy.com Tour events, the 1991 Tri-Cities Open and the 1999 Oregon Classic. His best PGA Tour finish was a third-place showing at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.
