Louisa Bergsma was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University women’s golf team from 1989 through 1993. She helped LU win the 1993 Sun Belt Conference championship by claiming medalist honors. She was the recipient of the prestigious John Gray/Babe Zaharias Award in 1992, which is given to the top senior-to-be female student-athlete.

Bergsma helped LU advance to the 1991 NCAA Championships, where the Lady Cardinals posted an all-time school best eighth-place finish. She placed 26th individually. She qualified individually for the 1992 NCAA Championships, where she placed 37th.

Bergsma was a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 1991 and 1992. She also earned academic all-conference honors in 1991 and 1993. She capped off her outstanding career at LU by earning honorable mention All-America status in 1993.

A native of Roodeport, South Africa, Bergsma was the 1988 South African Junior Golf champion and also played for South Africa in international competition in 1989.

Bergsma went on to play professionally on the Futures Tour before going to the LPGA Tour School. She earned PGA Class A membership in 1997 and earned LPGA Class A membership in 1998.

Bergsma was the assistant club professional at Babe Zaharias Golf Club in Port Arthur, Texas, from 1994 through 1997 and the head professional at Wildwood Golf Club in Woodville, Texas, in 1997 and 1998. She was the junior golf director for the Southern Texas PGA from 1999 through 2005 before becoming director of operations for the Southern Texas PGA.
