Maureen Madill was a two-year letterwinner for the Lamar University women’s golf team from 1976 through 1978. She helped the Lady Cardinals win the Texas AIAW state championship in 1977 and 1978. LU went on to compete in the AIAW National Championship both years, placing 14th in 1977 and 18th in 1978.

A native of Ireland, Madill enjoyed a stellar amateur career. She was the British Amateur champion in 1979 and the British Amateur stroke-play champion in 1980. She was a member of several British and Irish amateur teams – Vagliano Trophy Team (1979, 1981 and 1985), Curtis Cup (1980), Espirito Santo Team (1980) and Commonwealth Team (1979).

Madill turned professional in 1986. She played professionally until 1998, mostly on the European Tour. She was also a member of the Australian and Asian tours. She had five runner-up finishes on the European Tour. Her best year was in 1989, when she finished 12th on the European Order of Merit.
After her playing career, Madill turned to coaching. She was the coach of the Welsh national team from 1994 through 2001. She guided Wales to the 1999 Girls Home Internationals and Women’s Home Internationals, which marked the first time in the history of Welsh golf that any team, men’s or women’s, had won any Home International series.

Madill was also the Great Britain and Ireland national coach from 1998 through 2002. She was also captain of the 2002 Curtis Cup team. She went on to a career as a golf commentator on the BBC.
