Cardinal Hall of Honor
Lamar University’s all-time leader in wins and complete games, David Smith played a key role in Lamar University’s 1979 and 1981 Southland Conference championships.
In 1979, he set the LU single-season record for ERA (1.05). He followed that up in 1980 by setting school records for innings pitched (123) and consecutive wins (12). His 12 wins tie the LU single-season record for victories.
A former All-Southland Conference selection, Smith left LU near the top of the school’s all-time lists for winning percentage, ERA, shutouts and innings pitched. In his sophomore year, he threw a no-hitter in LU’s 4-1 win over Louisville.
