Cardinal Hall of Honor
Pat Foster made Lamar University basketball a fixture in postseason play.
Foster’s teams never failed to make the postseason, as he led the Cardinals to three Southland Conference championships and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the second round each time.
Foster won better than 73 percent of his games during his time at LU, leaving with 134 wins, the second most in program history. Foster’s teams were 49-19 (.721) in Southland Conference games.
The 1984 Southland Conference Coach of the Year when the Cardinals went 26-5, Foster posted five seasons of 20 or more wins at LU. He produced 15 All-Southland Conference selections, including seven first-team players, two Southland Conference Players of the Year, two SLC Newcomers of the Year and one All-American.
