Cardinal Hall of Honor
An all-around performer who started 85 games in four years for Lamar University on the hardwood, Jim Nicholson paced Lamar to a 20-4 season in 1968-69 and a Southland Conference title in 1969-70.
Nicholson earned All-SLC honors in 1967-68 when he led the team in scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage, the first player to accomplish this feat at Lamar. Nicholson also earned All-SLC honors in 1970 after leadint the Cardinals to an SLC title, as Lamar finished 15-9 overall and 7-1 in the conference. His career totals include 1,198 points, 750 rebounds, 451 free throws and a .485 field-goal percentage.
At the time of his induction, Nicholson’s 750 career rebounds were sixth all-time at Lamar, while his 1,198 points were 14th and his 334 free throws were fourth. An engineering major at LU, Nicholson was an Academic All-America honorable mention selection.
