LAMAR UNIVERSITY STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is designed to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. SAAC gives student-athletes a voice within Lamar’s athletic department by opening the lines of communication between the athletic administration and student-athletes. Student-athletes can bring up concerns regarding current legislation at the campus and national levels and provide feedback as necessary. SAAC also provides leadership opportunities on and off campus through community service and other events.

The committee is composed of one to two student representatives from each men's and women's intercollegiate team. Within the committee, an executive board is selected to run SAAC.

The NCAA and Southland conference also have SAAC committees. Lamar’s committee sends their opinions to the conference, which is then passed on to the national level.

GOALS OF SAAC
•Act as a liaison between student-athletes, the team, coaches, and athletic administration to provide feedback on proposed department, conference, and NCAA legislation and policies
•Support fellow student-athletes by attending athletic events
•Build relationships with other organizations and students on campus to promote a positive image of student-athletes and provide leadership opportunities in a non-athletic setting
•Engage with the Beaumont community through community service
•Help first-year student-athletes adjust to college life and the demands of college athletics
•Provide consistent support throughout a student-athlete’s time at Lamar

HOW TO JOIN
Any Lamar student-athlete is welcome to attend the monthly SAAC meetings. For more information about meeting dates and times, contact SAAC President Hailey Cleggett or Vice President Knox Boyd.

DIVISION I SAAC
The national SAAC committee consists of one student-athlete from each of the 32 Division I conferences. It echoes the concerns presented by the student-athletes at each school and conference and helps shape new legislation. The committee reports directly to the Division I Leadership Council, which has one active SAAC member. SAAC members also serve on cabinets and committees within the Division I governance structure.
