Cardinal Hall of Honor
John Riegger was a four-year letterwinner on the Lamar University men’s golf team from 1982 through 1985. He helped LU win Southland Conference championships in 1982, 1983 and 1985. He also helped the Cardinals to advance to the 1983 and 1985 NCAA Championships.
A two-time All-SLC performer in 1984 and 1985, Riegger was the 1985 SLC individual medalist as he posted rounds of 68, 65 and 69 for a 202 total for 54 holes, setting a conference tournament record. His second-round score of 65 was the second-lowest single-round score in conference history.
Riegger enjoyed a successful career as a professional golfer after leaving LU. He won the LaSalle Bank Open on the Nationwide Tour and posted two other top-10 finishes during the 2007 season to rank among the top 15 on the money list. He also won the 2010 Rex Hospital Open. His best finish on the PGA Tour was a tie for fifth at the 2006 John Deere Classic. On the Champions Tour, he won the 2013 Boeing Classic.
