Tony Mack was a two-year letterwinner on the Lamar University baseball team (1981, 1982). He helped LU win the 1981 Southland Conference championship to earn a berth in the 1981 NCAA Central Regionals in Austin, Texas. The Cardinals set a school record with 54 wins that season.

Mack posted an 8-4 record as a sophomore in 1981 with a team-best 2.39 earned run average. He tossed two shutouts, including a 1-0 blacking of UT Arlington that clincedh the Southland Conference championship for LU. Mack was named first team All-Southland Conference and received the Ted Lyons Award as the conference’s top pitcher. He represented Lamar University in the summer of 1981 on the United States All-Star team that toured Japan and Korea.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Mack was even better his junior season, posting a 10-1 record with a sparkling 1.89 ERA. He tossed a one-hitter against defending national champion Arizona State and fashioned a no-hitter against McNeese State. He again earned first team All-Southland Conference honors while winning the Ted Lyons Award for the second straight year.

Mack was also a two-time recipient of the Harold Kincaid Award as Lamar University’s top pitcher. He posted a career record of 18-5 with a 2.15 ERA. At the time of his induction in 2007, he ranked second all-time in school history in career winning percentage (.783) and third in ERA (2.15).

Mack was drafted in the third round, the 62nd overall selection, in the 1982 Major League Baseball Draft by the California Angels. He made it to the majors by pitching for the Angels in 1985.
