Cardinal Hall of Honor
Noted for his leadership role, Jake David combined defensive excellence and the ability to assume the quarterback’s role in emergencies to help Lamar University claim three consecutive Southland Conference titles from 1964 to 1966.
A two-time All-Southland Conference and All-Texas College defensive back in 1965 and 1966, the Nederland product was also named by his teammates as the Best Team Player twice and as a co-captain in 1966. The co-holder of Lamar’s single-season interception record with seven thefts in 1965, David’s career total of 13 interceptions ranked second in the school’s record book at the time of his induction.
Pressed into service at quarterback intermittently throughout his career, he started three games in 1965 and guided the Cardinals to a pair of conference wins en route to another championship.
