The most prolific scorer in Lamar University basketball history, Mike “Silk” Olliver finished his spectacular career as the NCAA’s 15th leading scorer of all time with 2,518 points.

Known for his long-range shooting skills, Olliver’s point total would have been much higher had the 3-point shot been in effect during his career. As it was, Olliver established most of Lamar’s scoring records. Some of his more significant marks are the single-game record of 50 points against Portland State, the single-season total of 716 points and 13 games of 30 or more points.

Olliver was a three-time All-Southland Conference guard, he 1981 SLC Player of the Year and the 1981 Co-Player of the Year in NCAA District 6. With Olliver averaging 20.6 points per game in his career, the Cardinals captured four SLC titles and played in three tournaments.

Many of Olliver’s best games were against elite teams. He tallied 37 points against Weber State, 35 vs. Louisville, 30 vs. Pittsburgh, 29 against LSU and 25 in an NCAA Tournament win over Missouri.
