Cardinal Hall of Honor
The first Lamar gridder to collect three all-conference decorations, Dick Croxton is recognized as Lamar University’s all-time best performer at defensive end. He earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1965, 1966 and 1967.
Noted for his reckless style of play, Croxton was a premier pass rusher and kick blocker. He averaged 10 tackles per game in both 1965 and 1966 and collected a career high of 15 tackles in a 10-7 win over McNeese State in 1966. In 1967, the Mt. Pleasant High School product was named Lamar’s Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman.
With Croxton anchoring the defensive unit, the Cardinals captured three straight Southland Conference championships from 1964 through 1966. Croxton exemplified the student-athlete tradition. Despite the rigors and time commitment to football, Croxton earned an engineering degree from Lamar.
