Phil Endicott’s steady performances throughout a four-year career played a major role in re-establishing Lamar as a basketball power in the late 1960s.

A highly recruited prep star out of Beaumont French, Endicott spurned other major offers to become the foundation of Lamar’s great 20-4 team in 1968-69 and the 1969-70 Southland Conference championship club.

A rare four-year starter in his era, Endicott racked up career records for points scored (1,349), field goals made (545) and games played (88). He had a superb freshman season when he led the team in scoring with a 17.1 average, finishing with a frosh record 376 points.

The steady Endicott averaged 15.4, 14.2 and 12 points per game in his last three seasons as Lamar’s record steadily improved. His 39 points against Southwestern Louisiana is still the Lamar freshman record.
