Cardinal Hall of Honor
Dr. F.L. McDonald is known as one of the "founding fathers" of the Southland Conference. On March 15, 1963, he joined the presidents from Abilene Christian College, Arkansas State College, Arlington State College and Trinity University to create the Southland Conference. Dr. McDonald was named President of Lamar State College of Technology in 1952.
During the fifteen years of Dr. McDonald's tenure, Lamar University experienced tremendous growth in undergraduate enrollment, added a graduate school and increased the size of the Beaumont campus by adding numerous academic facilities. Dr. McDonald served Lamar University until his passing in 1967.
