A two-sport star at Lamar University, Jesse Kibbles was known more for his accomplishments as a trickster. He won the 800-meter dash at the 1980 Southland Conference Championships in a time of 1:52.46.

He anchored the Cardinals’ 1,600-meer relay team to an eighth-place finish at the 1979 NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors. He was also part of LU’s distance medley relay team that set the outdoor school record of 9:41.01 at the Texas Relays on April 4, 1980.

Kibbles was also a four-year letterwinner in football as a defensive back. He had two interceptions, blocked a punt and record 11 tackles in a game against UT Arlington in 1975.
