Now that the academic year is over, and before we begin the 2019-20 season, LamarCardinals.com wanted to take a look back at what we felt were the Top 25 Moments of the 2018-19 season. The top 25 list was voted on by a panel of 15 members of the LU senior and external staff.
No. 15
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University fired a team-low round of 290 (+2) in the final round of the 2019 Southland Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon but it wasn't enough to hold off Sam Houston State. Despite opening the day facing a four-stroke deficit, Sam Houston State recorded two of the top three round of the tournament to post 889-896 victory over the Cardinals on the Par 72, 7,219-yard Stonebridge Ranch Country Club course.
The Cardinals finished the tournament with a three-round score of 301-305-290 – 896 (+32). Big Red landed four players within the leaderboard's top 15, including two in the top five –
Kevin Lee and
Sam Dumez.
Both Dumez and Lee finished tied for fifth overall, but Lee posted the better final round. Lee ended the tournament with a three-round 76-75-71 – 222, while Dumez fired a 74-73-75 – 222. Freshman
Hugo Hellman was just three strokes back of his teammates. The talented freshman carded a 75-79-71 – 225 to finish 11thoverall.
Senior
Eason Wang fired his best round of the tournament Tuesday afternoon with a two-over 73. He rallied to finish 15th overall with a three-round 77-78-73 – 228. Junior Cody Banack closed out the team's scorecard with a 76-79-79 – 234 to finish tied for 27th.
