Top 25 – Jolic Wins Match at No. 2 Against League Leaders
Now that the academic year is over, and before we begin the 2019-20 season, LamarCardinals.com wanted to take a look back at what we felt were the Top 25 Moments of the 2018-19 season. The top 25 list was voted on by a panel of 15 members of the LU senior and external staff.
No. 24
BEAUMONT, Texas – When the Lamar University women's tennis team stepped on the court to face Northwestern State back in March, they were already facing an uphill battle. The Demons sat atop the Southland Conference with a 11-2 (.846) overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. In addition to that, Big Red entered the match down a player at No. 2 singles. Without skipping a beat LU head coach

Sanja Jolic in at line two singles and she never skipped a beat.
In her only match at the No. 2 position all season, Jolic dominated Northwestern State's Maria Skyba. Jolic picked up a straight-sets victory with identical 6-4 scores. Despite being shorthanded, Jolic's victory put the Cardinals in a position to hand the league leaders their first SLC setback of the season. Unfortunately, the Cardinals came up just short in the overall team match but bounced back down the stretch getting hot at the right time to qualify for the Southland Conference postseason championships.
Jolic finished the season with a career year posting a 14-7 (.667) overall record and went 9-2 (.818) in Southland competition. She was recognized as an honorable mention All-SLC selection following the season.
