Top 25 – Garth Scores Career-High 36 Points

Now that the academic year is over, and before we begin the 2019-20 season, LamarCardinals.com wanted to take a look back at what we felt were the Top 25 Moments of the 2018-19 season. The top 25 list was voted on by a panel of 15 members of the LU senior and external staff.

No. 19

BEAUMONT, Texas – Coming off a tough five-game swing during non-conference play that saw Lamar University drop four of the five games, the Cardinals returned home to face a very tough Texas Southern squad. The Tigers had risen to the top of the SWAC over the past couple of seasons and headed to Beaumont with wins over Baylor and Oregon. Despite those impressive numbers, senior Nick Garth made an early statement putting TSU on notice that their trip to the Golden Triangle would not be an easy one.

The school's all-time leading three-point shooter recorded LU's first basket of the night – a three-pointer – which was a sign of things to come. Garth shot 11-of-17 (.647) from the field, which included a near perfect 8-of-9 (.888) from three-point range. Garth scored a career-high 36 points against the school from his hometown as the Cardinals led by as many as 17 points in the second half before picking up the 80-72 victory.

Garth would go one to be one of the Southland's leading scorers in 2018-19 and finished his career by earning first-team All-Southland Conference honors. The Cardinals ended with a third-straight season of at least 19 wins which marks the longest run of success since the 1982-83 through 1984-85 seasons.
