SAN MARCOS, Texas - Recording eight personal bests and 23 Top 10 finishes, Lamar University's track & field team wrapped up the 2019 regular season in spectacular fashion. The Cardinals won the men's 400-meter dash, came in second in the men's 1,500-meters and men's triple jump, and took third in the women's 400-meter dash and men's and women's 4x400-meter relays.
Webster Slaughter got the lone gold medal of the night in the men's 400-meter dash, recording a time of 47.52, just .29 of a second slower than his personal best time of 47.23. Michael Ford came in just behind him at 49.59, a new personal best and good for sixth place.
Kyle Nelson took seventh with a time of 50.27, and
Bo Waldrup came in eighth at 50.72.
Javon McCray took second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 48' 4", missing his personal best by about a foot and three inches, and
Nejc Ferle came within three seconds of his personal best in the men's 1,500-meters when he took second with a time of 3:59.15. Third-place finishes went to
Keegan Crawford in the men's 400-meter hurdles (54.96, a new PR), to
Migle Muraskaite in the women's 400-meter dash (1:08.82), and to
Ju'Vonta Conston in the men's high jump (6' 2.75"). The 4x400-meter relay teams also took third.
Other personal bests came in the men's 800-meters where
Brandon Lantau ran a PR of 1:55.24 for sixth place. He was followed by
R'kel Collins in ninth at 2:04.82, also a new PR.
Talon Tilley record a PR in the men's 110-meter hurdles at 15.05, taking fifth, and
Tony Land also record a new PR in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15.07 for sixth.
Satchel Smith took seventh in the men's 100-meter dash (11.01) and ninth in the men's 200-meter dash (21.92), setting a new PR in the 200m, and
Kelsie McClenon was the lone women's PR breaker with a new personal best in the women's 200-meter dash, taking ninth with a time of 25.36.
Thai Williams took eighth in the women's 100-meter dash with a race of 12.39,
Mya Taylor took sixth in the women's 1,500-meter race at 4:55.26,
Ruta Okulic-Kazarinaite took eighth in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a 1:05.41,
Wreagan Taylor took ninth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.84, and
Taylar Prier took fifth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 36' 8.5".
The 2019 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship starts on May 3 at Northwestern State.
