BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University is sending a split squad this week to the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif./4/16-4/17) and Houston, Texas (Tom Tellez Invitational (4/17-4/18). Sophomore Luke Parker, junior Ashton Rainey and seniors Jonathan Rivera and Hannah Roberts to California while the rest of the team is headed back to Houston.
Last week, the Cardinals competed in the 44 Farms Invitational hosted by Texas A&M and collected 14 top-10 finishes. Among the highlights of the meet came from Mariam Buenanueva Saleme, who set the school's heptathlon record (5.596) and took third place. Her performance would garner her Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, which was the second straight week LU received a weekly award. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Trenton Brown, Bryson Champagne, Tyler Minter and Ethan Ellis also finished third with a time of 3:11.83.
In Azusa, Rainey will start things off with the women's 10,000m Thursday (10:40 p.m. CT). Parker runs in the 800m Friday (7:40 p.m. CT) while Roberts (10 p.m. CT) and Rivera (11 p.m. CT) have their 1,500m events Saturday.
Meanwhile in Houston, the Tom Tellez Invitational starts Friday at 12:30 p.m. with the men's and women's pole vault. The track events will follow at 5 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdle preliminaries.
