SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Lamar University fired a second-round 289 Saturday afternoon to remain seventh overall with the final round of 18 left to play. Despite ending the day eight strokes off Friday's pace, the Cardinals now sit seventh alone after being in a two-way tie following the opening round. The Cardinals enter the final round of action with a two-over 281-289 – 570 just six strokes back of North Carolina, but just a stroke up on Cincinnati and Western Kentucky.
Duke continues to lead the team leaderboard (257-277 – 534) but came back to the pack finishing the day 20 strokes off their opening-round pace.
Freshman
Hugo Hellman continues to lead the Big Red attack with a three-under par 139. He followed up his two under Friday with a one-under 70 in the middle round of action. He is currently tied for 13
th overall.
The Cards'
Cody Banach is just three strokes back of his teammate after rounds of 70-73 and tied for 37
th with a one-over 143. Banach leads a trio of Cardinals who enter the final round of action separated by just two strokes.
Sam Dumez is tied for 48
th after firing a 70-74 – 144 in the first two rounds. Senior
Eason Wang comes into Sunday's final round with a 72-73 – 145 (T57th).
Sophomore
Nikolai Schaffrath closed out the Cardinals' scorecard with a 76-73 – 149. He enters the final round of 18 tied for 73
rd.
The Cardinals close out the UofL Cardinal Challenge with the final round of action. Big Red tees off at 8:30 a.m. from the UofL Cardinals Golf Club. The Cardinals are paired up with UNC, Cincinnati and Mississippi State.
