SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Golf Club got the better of the Lamar University Cardinals on Saturday, as the Cardinals dropped from sixth place to 10
th place after two rounds of the Louisville Cardinal Challenge.
LU, which posted a team total of 8-over-par 296 on Friday, shot a 310 on Saturday. LU's two-day total of 30-over-par 606 is six strokes behind ninth-place Winthrop in the 13-team field. The host Louisville Cardinals lead the field at 4-under 572, one stroke ahead of Miami (Ohio).
"It was a tough day on the course," LU coach
Jessie Mudd said. "We threw away a lot of shots on the back nine, and also had two guys really struggle. Some days, it's just not your day, and today was that day for us."
Sam Dumez of the Cardinals is tied for 16
th 3-over-147 after carding a 73 on Saturday. LU's
Eason Wang, who was tied for 10
th after an even-par 72 on Friday, is tied for 23
rd after a 76 on Saturday.
Clay McCrory is tied for 33
rd at 150 after firing a 77 on Saturday.
Also for the Cardinals,
Cody Banach is in 74
th at 161 after an 84 in the second round. Garret James shot an 85 to end the day at 166, putting him in 79
th place.
LU's
Juho Kurikka, competing as an individual, is tied for 67
th after Saturdays 82 put him at 159 for 36 holes.
Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) leads the medalist chase at 7-under 137 after a 69 on Saturday. Flavin is one shot ahead of Louisville's Erik Dulik, who is competing as an individual.
As a team, the Cardinals lead the two other Southland Conference schools in the field. Southeastern Louisiana is in 11
th place at 609, three shots behind the Cardinals. Stephen F. Austin is tied for 12
th at 611.
Sunday's final round tees off at 9 a.m.
