LAFAYETTE, La. - Rob Lee and Bruno Snyder posted singles victories for the Lamar University men's tennis team, but the Cardinals dropped a 5-2 non-conference decision at Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

Lee improved to 9-5 in singles competition with a 6-4, 7-6 (7) win over Rick DeGroot at No. 1 singles. Snyder moved to 7-6 with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Damian Fannola at No. 5 singles.

Louisiana-Lafayette ( 13-6), ranked 64th in the nation, opened the day by sweeping the doubles competition before taking four of the six singles matches.

"We played a much better match today, but still came up short in doubles," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "We need to learn to finish opponents off when we are up in matches. However, ULL played tough and hit some big shots when needed."

Lamar (6-8) looks for its first Southland Conference victory when it travels to UT Arlington at 2 p.m. Thursday.

"Having played better today than in our last two conference matches, it willhelp us against UT Arlington," Shankles said. "Having lost to them last year, but playing better today, the guys are looking forward to Thursday's contest.
