HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Lamar University women's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Lamar's combined score of 311 is 18 strokes behind the 293 registered by co-leaders Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas at the Ravens Nest Golf Club.
Lamar's Linda Persson is tied for 14th after carding a 5-over-par 76 over the 6,067-yard layout. Lauren Van Gerven of Lamar is tied for 18th after shooting a 77. Meghan Musk of Sam Houston State and Rebecca Sorensen of Central Arkansas are tied for the individual lead after carding rounds of 1-under-par 70.
The eight-team, 54-hole event continues at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the final round set for 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The team champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
