SAN MARCOS, Texas — Lamar University wrapped up the 2025–26 season by finishing sixth out of seven teams at the Southland Conference Tournament at Kissing Tree Golf Club.
The Cardinals (303-296-306—905) ended the event just two strokes behind fifth-place East Texas A&M after Wednesday afternoon's final round.
LU posted its lowest second-round score of the season, surpassing the previous low of 297 set at the West Texas Classic on March 2.
"Today was a disappointing finish," said head coach
Janell O'Connor. "We were hanging in there for most of the day and just let it slip away at the end.
"We lost shots on silly mistakes and mental mistakes on the last few holes."
Brooke Frerichs climbed back into second place early in the round, recording six pars and a birdie to start the front nine, but was unable to maintain the position down the stretch.
Frerichs closed out the season with a team-best 76.0 stroke average across 24 rounds, recording her third top 20 finish of the year.
The Cardinals posted seven birdies and 52 pars in the final round.
Kamaya Moodliar recorded three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18, to finish the back nine at even par.
Moodliar also tallied her team-best fourth top 20 finish of the season and placed second overall with a 76.9 scoring average.
Montana Di Leo finished the back nine at even par as well, carding seven pars and a birdie. She recorded seven consecutive pars from holes eight through 14.
Di Leo recorded her best 54-hole total of 226 and her top finish of the season, tying for 20th place.
Aaniyah Bhola added a birdie on the third hole, joining two other Cardinals who also birdied the hole.
The program graduates two seniors,
Karolina Krasova and
Lucy Bedford.
With a young roster that gained valuable experience and the addition of Italy's Siria Ballini next fall, the future looks promising.
"The future of Lamar women's golf looks very bright as we are a very young team, and the ones who are returning played well and are continuing to improve each tournament," added O'Connor. "I am excited what this team can do over the next few years and beyond."
UT Rio Grande Valley (292-288-288—868) battled back to win the team title with a one-stroke lead over Houston Christian.
HCU's Sara Pihlajamaki (69-72-70—211) held on to win the individual title with a five-stroke lead over teammate Alyssa Stewart and UTRGV's Miriam Barcalova.
