AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Lamar women's golf team posted its lowest round of the tournament and finished in ninth place at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club Monday.
Lamar recorded the fourth-lowest score of the day with a 309, which pushed its team score to 948. Second-round leader Coastal Carolina ran away with the team title as its 291 allowed its 891 total to give it a 15-shot cushion over tournament-host and runner-up Augusta State at 906. UNC-Wilmington's 308 saw it move from fifth to third at 926.
Linda Persson started the day in a tie for 22nd, but scored the third-lowest individual round of the final day with a 74, finishing with a 230 and tied for 13th. After four birdies in the first two rounds combined, the senior had four on Monday alone.
Ashley Thorpe and Stine Pedersen tied for 40th at 239. Thorpe's three birdies in her round of 77 allowed her to finished the event with a team-best nine, tied for third among the 75-player field. Pedersen ended with a 76, Lamar's second-lowest round of the day.
Lauren Van Gerven shot an 82 to finish tied fro 48th at 242, while Julie Aime tied for 53rd at 245 following her second-consecutive 82.
Four of the five Lady Cards shot better on Monday than in the afternoon on Tuesday, while Thorpe and Pedersen each lowered the score from the previous round each of the last two outings.
Lamar will return to action next week at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.
