TOLEDO, Ohio -- Lamar junior Hugues Joannes concluded the stroke play portion of the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championship with a 75 to place him in the top third of the 156-player field at the Inverness Club Thursday.
The Brussels, Belgium native totaled a 221 with rounds of 72-74-75 and was the fourth-highest individual competitor not playing as part of a team. His 54-hole score was the eighth-best at the championship in Lamar history as he became the 14th player to finish in the top 60 in the last 24 years.
The two players he was paired with eall three days, Matt Hill of North Carolina State and Kyle Stanley of Clemson finished first and second, respectively. Hill fired three-consecutive 69s for a 207 score and the medalist crown, while Stanley was two shots back with a 72-71-66--209 54-hole score.
