LAKE CHARLES, La. -- With two players in the top 10, the Lamar women's golf team is in second place after 36 holes of the Cowgirl Fall Invitational, held at the Lake Charles Country Club Monday.
Senior Linda Persson is tied for second with a 78-72--150 score and sits just one shot back of tourney leader Ragna Loafsdottir of McLennan Community College at 149. Junior Stine Pedersen is also among the top 10 following her Monday totals of 76-78--154, which places her in a six-way tie for eighth.
They have paced a Lamar group that shot 314 in the morning round and was in fourth place before a 304 in the afternoon vaulted them into second place. Central Arkansas leads the eight-team field at 609. McNeese State is six strokes behind Lamar at 624, followed by McLennan at 631, Sam Houston State at 634 and Stephen F. Austin at 650.
Other Lamar scores included Lauren Van Gerven and Ashley Thorpe each firing a 160 to tie for 17th place and Jennel Alexander signing for a 79-85--164 for 27th place. Fabienne Haremza, who is competing as an individual entrant, is tied for 20th at 79-82--161.
Haremza is scheduled to tee off at 8:27 a.m. on Tuesday, with the first of the Lamar team scorers starting just over an hour later at 9:39 a.m.
