SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The Lamar men's golf team concluded its fall season with an eighth place showing at the CordeValle Collegiate at the CordeValle Resort on Wednesday.
LU shot a 381 to finish with a 1,135 54-hole total. Each team in the event counted five of six players' scores each day.
Senior Leroux Ferriera led the Cardinals with a 15th-place finish and a 75-72-73--220, 4-over-par total. He started his final round with a birdie on the tenth hole and ended it with consecutive birdies on his final two holes - Nos. 8 and 9 on the course. His 2.92 scoring average on the par 3s was tied for the best average in the tournament.
Junior Hugues Joannes finished four shots behind Ferriera in a tie for 25th with a 73-75-76--224 score He also finished his third round with a birdie on the final hole. His 36 pars over 54 holes were the third-highest total among the field. Senior Justin Harding tied for 37th upon turning in a 54-hols total of 74-78-76--228, 12-over. His eight birdies this week were second among the Cardinals, just behind Ferriera's 11.
Freshman Kevin Hesbois finished his second collegiate event in a tie for 45th at 75-77-77--229. Redshirt junior Wynand Snymon tied for 64th with a 77-78-80--235 score, and redshirt freshman Jake Fuljenz finished 74th at 81-85-79--245.
USC shot a three-day total of 1,080 and won the team title by 26 shots over Stanford. UCLA finished third at 1,107, Washington was fourth at 1,110 and Charlotte was fifth at 1,115.
Washington's Nick Taylor and USC's Tim Sluiter tied for medalist honors with matching 4-under 212 totals.
This concludes Lamar's fall season in which the Cardinals posted three top-five finishes and was the top finishing American school at the Topy Cup to open the season. Lamar will begin its spring season at the Jacksonville University Invitational, Feb. 16-17, at the TPC Sawgrass.
