SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- Lamar opened play on the second day of the CordeValle Collegiate with one of its strongest showings but was unable to hold that momentum through the back nine, shooting a 380 for a 754 total and sits in seventh place following Tuesday's round.
The Cardinals started the day on No. 10 at the CordeValle Resort and toured the opening nine holes at an impressive two-over par. But the front nine of the 7,119-yard layout wasn't as kind as the Lamar players combined for an 18-over score.
As a result, LU is alone in seventh place and sits six stokes behind UCLA and eight back of Charlotte and Arkansas. USC extended its lead with a 362 total and holds a 19-shot advantage over Stanford, with Washington a stroke back of the Cardinal.
Leroux Ferriera leads the Lamar contingent with a 147 total through 36 holes, including an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He was on his way to an even lower score before triple-bogeying the par-5 third hole - his 12th hole of the day. Even with that he played the final six holes even and sits alone in 16th place.
Hugues Joannes sits in a tie for 17th one stroke back following his 75 on Tuesday.
Kevin Hesbois and Justin Harding are tied for 37th position with 36-hole totals of 152.
Wynand Snymon shot 78 on Tuesday and is tied for 52nd place with a 155 score and Jake Fuljenz is in 76th with a 166 score.
Tim Sluiter of USC shot a second-consecutive 70 and holds a one-shot lead over teammate Matthew Giles in the individual medalist race. Jamie Lovemark of USC and David Rawluk of Charlotte are tied for third two shots back of Sluiter.
Lamar will be paired with Coastal Carolina in Wednesday's final round, starting on No. 10 at 8:36 a.m. PT.
