FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University senior
Ethan Ellis has been named to his first career Southland Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor, announced league officials Wednesday afternoon following a victory in the men's 400-meter hurdles at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster. Ellis becomes the fourth Cardinal and first track athlete this season to receive the honor.
Ellis crossed the line first with his personal best of 50.76 seconds, which was ahead of Rice's Edward Bocock (51.09) and Texas A&M's DJ Taylor (51.17). This was the fourth career victory in the heat for the Missouri City native. Ellis is currently ranked first in the conference, sixth in the South Central Region and 42
nd in the NCAA Division I Top 100.
Later, Ellis teamed up with Tre Brown,
Tyler Minter and
Davis Wenthe to place third in the men's 1,600-meter relay at 3:09.72.
The Cardinals are off this week, but will prepare for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championship meet, which will take place in Nacgodoches and run from Thursday, May 14
th to Saturday, May 16
th.
