Schiel Breaks Javelin Mark for Second Straight Week at Alumni Muster

| By:
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Lamar University senior Ethan Ellis won his second men's 400-meter hurdles event of the season Saturday as the Cardinals compiled 38 top-10 finishes at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster. Fellow senior Neelie Schiel smashed her own school record in the women's javelin throw for the second consecutive meet.

Ellis ran in the second heat of his event and crossed the line at 50.76 seconds, which established a new personal best time. The Missouri City native has won four career 400-meter hurdle events, including back in March at the Prairie View A&M Relays.

Schiel, the reigning Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, continued to set a new standard in the javelin as she bested her previous record by four feet with her toss of 48.54m (159-3) to earn fifth.  She moves up 20 spots and is ranked 71st nationally (13th in the NCAA South Central Region)

Anthony Oliver was one of two Cardinals to have multiple top-five finishes when he placed second in the hammer throw (61.37m/201-4) and was fourth in the discus with a personal best of 51.53m (169-0). Alex Williams III earned two fourth-place finishes in the hammer (57.36m/188-2) and in the men's shot put (16.84m/55-3), which trailed teammate Tre Richardson's second-place mark of 17.00m (55-9.25).

Senior Kenson Tate returned to action in the men's jump and recorded a season-best 7.45m (24-5.5) to take second. Sophomore Luke Parker established a new personal best in the men's 800m (1:49.45), which was enough for third place.

Big Red will have a week off before gearing up for the SLC Outdoor Championships which will be hosted by Stephen F. Austin at the Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches. The meet will run from Thursday, May 14th to Saturday, May 16th.
