BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will get set to compete in the penultimate event of the outdoor track and field season before the Southland Conference Championships as it heads back to College Station for the Texas A&M Alumni Muster Friday. This will be a two-day meet running from Friday to Saturday.
The Cardinals sent a split squad to both the John McDonnell Invitational (Fayetteville, Ark.) and the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight Meet (Houston, Texas), combining for 32 top-10 finishes. In Fayetteville,
Krystan Bright set a personal best in the women's 400-meter hurdles (59.54) to take second, while
Ethan Ellis claimed third in the men's 400-meter hurdles (52.09).
Ke'Asia Hall was the highest finisher of all LU field athletes when she placed second in the triple jump (12.27m/40-3.25).
In Houston,
Neelie Schiel (javelin; 2nd; 47.25m/155-0) and
Tre Richardson (shot put; 4th; 17.51m/57-5.5) broke school records in their respective events. For her performance, Schiel was tabbed as the SLC Field Athlete of the Week.
Kyndall Drones earned two top-five finishes in the women's shot put (2nd; 14.72m/48-3.5) and the women's hammer throw (3rd; 49.62m/162-9) while
Anthony Oliver took second in the men's hammer throw (60.72m/199-2).
LU is one of 20 teams competing along with hosts A&M, Baylor, Blinn, Houston Christian, Iowa State, UL Lafayette, McNeese, Northwestern State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Rice, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Tulane, UL-Monroe, UT-Tyler and UTSA.
The Alumni Muster will start Friday afternoon as
Kyndall Drones,
Shelby Lewis and
Xiomara Rodriguez compete in the women's discus at 4 p.m. while
Andres Padron and
Jonathan Rivera will run in the men's 5,000m at 8:25 p.m. Saturday's field events open at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw, while the 400-meter relays kick off the track events at 2:15 p.m.
