LU men's golf travels to San Antonio for Military City Collegiate

BEAUMONT, Texas — Posting their second top five finish of the season, the Lamar University men's golf team got off to a hot start in their spring opener.

The Cardinals tied for fifth amid a competitive field at the Border Olympics in Laredo last week.

Now, LU sets its sights on the Military City Collegiate at TPC San Antonio Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 23-24.

The tournament will utilize a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on both days.
LAST TIME OUT

Nathan Woodham tied for fourth place after shooting a score of 210 (75-67-68) while David Schneider Jerez tied for eighth with a total score of 212 (73-68-71).

The Cardinals shot five under par in the second round, the best team score of the round.

LU made the second most birdies at the tournament with 52.
LEADING THE WAY

Schneider leads the team with 12 rounds of par or better and a stroke average of 70.6 in 15 rounds of competition.

He also recorded his second top 10 finish of the season.

Woodham has recorded eight rounds of par or better with a 71.8 stroke average in 15 rounds.

At the Border Olympics, Woodham tallied his best 54-hole score and lowest round score of the season (67).

Matthew Bramford is third on the team with a stroke average of 72.7 and seven rounds of par or better.

The Cardinals have a collective 73.8 stroke average.

MILITARY CITY COLLEGIATE

The last time the Cardinals competed in San Antonio was in 2023 at the Southland Conference tournament at Hill Country Golf Club.

Hosted by UTSA, the Military City Collegiate, presented by USAA, is being played on the Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio.

The Canyons Course, which measures at 7,106 yards, played host to the AT&T Championship on the Champions Tour from 2011 to 2015.

TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course has been hosting the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open since 2010.

The tournament features 12 teams in the field including Western Kentucky, Incarnate Word, UT Rio Grande Valley, Middle Tennessee, UTSA, Central Michigan, UT Arlington, DePaul, UL Monroe, High Point and Abilene Christian.
