CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Battling windy conditions at the Corpus Christi Country Club during the final round of the Islanders Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, the Lamar University women's golf team finished sixth overall with a three-round total of 950 (310-324-316).

"We don't play our best yesterday. Weather was perfect in the morning, and we didn't take advantage of it," said head coach Janell O'Connor. "Today were the toughest conditions we have faced all year.

"They played OK, we just need to really hone our short game to save us on days like this."

Karolina Krasova didn't let the adverse weather bring her down as she shot even par (72) in the final round. She finished with the lowest score of the round.

Krasova made three birdies and 12 pars. Five pars were made on the final six holes.

She made a big climb from being tied for 25th to breaking into the top 15.

LU tallied six birdies, four were made on the front nine.

Kamaya Moodliar made eight consecutive pars to close out the afternoon to have 11 for the round.

Amanda Davidsson tallied two birdies on the second and seventh holes while Lucy Bedford had one at the 11th hole.

The Cardinals finished the round with 45 pars.

"I'm proud of Karolina. She played steady, kept her cool and her short game helped her out," O'Connor added. "Just goes to show that someone will play well no matter the conditions. Today was her day."

Houston Christian won the tournament with a total score of 902 (299-297-306), holding a four-stroke lead over UT Rio Grande Valley.

Elsa Tornvall of A&M-Corpus Christi was the individual leader with a three-round total of 221 (70-76-75).

Tornvall finished with a two-stroke lead over Houston Christian's Alyssa Stewart.
